oil refinery

I pass this oil refinery everyday on my way to the studio. I have taken a lot of photos of it and in it. They are finally tearing it down and rebuilding something in it’s place. Here are some of the drums waiting to be picked up.

Bob Pelzman – Choteau, MT

We met a gentleman by the name of Bob Pelzman at the Choteau General Store, right off HWY 267.  He was sitting behind the counter telling stories of when he worked at Glacier National Park as a trail guide and of all the animals he had seen.  He add a mouth like a sailor and I told him that he had to let me take his picture, he replied, “Oh what the hell, you only live once”.

St. Mary Catholic Church

We came across this church while on our way to the northern side of Glacier in the town of Babb, MT.  There was a wicked storm rolling in behind it so we didn’t stay for long.

deuce

A few weeks ago me and Jessica met up with Deuce Bello and Jay Canty to shoot some basketball photos.  Deuce and Jay are both basketball super stars getting scouted by some big name schools.  The catch, they are only sophomores in high school.  Both are amazing guys and really down to earth, despite the attention they get.  Here are a few portraits of Deuce.

Polly turns Two

Polly (our dog) turned two years old this past weekend and we thought a great way to celebrate would be to let her run wild for a little while. So on Saturday we packed up the car and headed to Doughton Park, which is just outside of Roaring Gap, NC on the Blue Ridge Parkway. It was so cold up there, and we got to see lots of snow flurries. On the way home we stopped off and pick out our Christmas Tree. All in all a great Birthday party. Jessica took some great shots of me and the pooch which I nabbed and posted below.

Mt. Vaught, Glacier

Mt. Vaught is part of the four mountains rising above McDonald Creek known as the Livingston Range.  These mountains are really tough to get a view of.  There are not any pull offs or designated areas to view them.  Just have to do the sketchy driver thing and turn around while you are driving, as you are turning a curve, scaring the hell out of everyone in the car with you.  Pretty much what we did.. But since it was so early in the park, the traffic was low so we just stopped in the middle of the road and got out to take in the view.  It was really impressive!  Although super dangerous, I am glad that we got to see it from this angle.  I posted a shot below as well a shot Jessica took of me as I was racing against the clock to get the photo.

Cleaning Up

I came across this photo taken by Callie Shell this afternoon. She is an amazing photo journalist, and pretty much has been exclusively covering Mr. Obama for the past few years.  I just had to share this photo with you.  I think it really shows the kind of a guy Barack Obama is.

Lake McDonald, Glacier

As we arrived in Glacier and saw an amazing sunrise we approached the massive Lake McDonald. This is the largest lake in the park, it is 10 miles long and about 400 feet deep. One thing that was really amazing to Jessica and myself, was the rock shores. I know this is silly but we only have sandy beaches here in NC, so this really got us pumped, oh and so did the gorgeous mountains in the background. Here a a few shots from around the lake and a river that flows into it. The rapids in the river were so gnarly and cold and the rocks had a thin layer of ice on them. Jessica and Steve were a little sketched out when I was taking those photos.

New Book- Still

I just picked up a new book last night titled Still.  It is  a book containing portraits of 21st century cowboys by Robb Kendrick.  Kendrick made the photos using an old fashion process, the Tintype.  The title “Still” came from the slow process Kendrick had to use to make each photo.  The subjects had to remain very still during the exposure, but it is so worth it. The photos are gorgeous! Below is a few images from the book as well as the cover.  Really inspiring book-

Tech- T/S Video

It is really fascinating to see the direction photography is going these days.  Most of the new “still” cameras being released can now shoot HD video.  This is really amazing.  You can use all of the lenses that are for you photo camera, now on you high definition video camera.  Below is a fun time lapse video taken with the new Nikon D90 and a tilt shift lens from Keith Loutit . The sailboats in the harbor are really cool.
